I recently discovered epsom salt and I’ve been finding more and more ways to incorporate it into my life.
Not familiar with Epsom Salt? It’s a naturally occurring salt that contains high levels of magnesium. Magnesium is crucial is supporting healthy liver, kidney and digestive functions. I’ve also discovered some incredible skincare perks to using the salt.
How to use:
– Salt Soak: fill a warm bath and pour 2-3 cups of epsom salt under the running water. Rest in the water for anywhere between 15 and 20 minutes. This is actually one of the best ways to use the high-magnesium property of the salt as magnesium is easily absorbed through the skin. Epsom salt baths can also reduce stress and tension in the body. Here’s an unexpected perk, after an epsom salt bath my skin is left softer and more youthful feeling than ever.
Salt Scrub: Mixing a bit of the salt into your face wash in the morning once or twice a week can softly exfoliate your face without being overly harsh as the salt will desolve quickly with the warmth from your skin. It can also be used as a daily lip scrub. Put a bit of it onto a warm damp washcloth or even just use your finger to rub it into your lips.
Cleansing Detox: I personally haven’t done this, so I’m hesitant to go into detail about it as I haven’t experienced the results first hand. However, a primary use for epsom salt can be in a deep-body detox by drinking it for a few hours after a 12 hour fast. If you’re interested in this detoxing property of the salt, I would do your own research and when needed, consult your doctor.
Where can you get epsom salt? Almost anywhere, most supermarkets and health food / organic stores will sell it. Don’t be fooled by glamorous packaging and added ingredients that can cost $15-$40 for a small-ish container. Epsom salt is best used in it’s pure form without added ingredients, and it’s dirt cheap. A very large bag of it costs around $5.00. Enjoy!
It’s January and everyone is still all about their ‘new year new me’ diet and exercise routines but what if I had a dessert hack that will outlast our health-obsessed new year’s resolutions?
Nice cream or banana ice cream will literally satisfy all your sweet and unhealthy desires without adding to your waistline. Don’t be afraid, I don’t particularly love bananas but I love this ‘icecream’, it’s flavored so the bananas aren’t overpowering at all. I’ve even got a way to boost it’s flavor and add protein at the same time.
This diet doesn’t promise that you’ll lose 10 pounds in 2 weeks. In fact, it doesn’t make empty promises at all. The anti-inflammatory diet can literally slow the aging process in your body and prevent disease, not to mention it will leave you with more energy throughout the day, that’s a fact.
Don’t let this very un-sexy name turn you off from this eating plan. So what is inflammation? It’s a chronic condition that nearly every adult over 30 has whether they know it or not, and along with aging you it can lead to many debilitating illnesses including heart disease, arthritis, and cancer.
What are the rules?
focus on a fiber-rich diet (try to consume 25 grams of fiber each day)
This means eating TONS of whole grains, fruits and veggies
Eat a minimum of 9 servings of fruit and veggies per day, it sounds like a lot but it’s easy to get used to
Healthy fats like nuts, seeds olive oil, and avocado
Beans and legumes
Avoid processed sugars (which should be true on any healthy diet)
For an added boost of anti-inflammatory power eat ginger, garlic and tumeric any chance you get!
That’s it! Seriously, how does it work? The foods in this plan work hard to stabilize your blood sugar throughout the day and increase your metabolism. If you follow it you’ll be looking and feeling better in no time! It’s simple to stick, which means sustainable long-lasting results – yay!
It can be difficult to resist the cookies that your friend is offering or the dessert after dinner, but that’s because you didn’t plan to have those things and the offer of them seems fleeting. It’s easy to think well if I don’t have it now, I won’t get the offer ever again!
This is why I say, plan your treats. Plan to treat yo self! On a Sunday night as you look to the week ahead, make a plan of the little treats you’ll give yourself for that week. Maybe for you it’s a few small things a day, maybe instead it’s two large desserts. Whatever you choose, remind yourself that it’s perfectly okay to treat yourself and having the planned out sweets and treats will remind you to avoid the random food temptations that pop up unexpectedly!
Trying to eat well and stay fit is impossible if you don’t keep your fridge stocked with the right foods. No matter how disciplined you are, if you’re hungry and there’s nothing
around you’re more likely to go for a fast an convenient option like ordering in. Not only are you more likely to go for a less healthy option when ordering in but you
also don’t know all of the ingredients in your meal.
The best way to avoid this fattening fate is to keep your own home stocked with the right foods. Here are five foods every fit girl needs to keep socked in her fridge. Continue reading →
These days it seems like no one takes the time to eat a proper breakfast. When people do claim to have had breakfast it usually sounds something like ‘oh I’ve had an apple’ or ‘just a piece of toast.’ From what I can tell, very few people eat a big breakfast in the morning but let me tell you why you should: Continue reading →
