Recipe: Smoothie Bowls

How to make a smoothie bowl:

I definitely recommend buying some frozen fruit and your favorite toppings and playing around with making your own smoothie bowls at home. I’ve included a few of my favorite “recipes” below. While none of mine are especially healthy, they aren’t unhealthy either! If you want to add a bit more “health” to your bowls some easy ingredients to include are fresh baby spinach or a protein powder of your choice.

Making your own Instagram worthy smoothie bowl at home that is as delicious and healthy as it is adorable is easier than you might think

Even more recipes and suggestions!

My favorite smoothie bowls are typically very banana heavy. Personally, I don’t stick to any sort of recipe but I typically put two or more frozen bananas in my blender with a bit of almond milk (because bananas alone don’t have a high enough water content to blend smoothly and easily into a smoothie consistency.)

Some of my favorites smoothie bowls to make are:

Chocolatey:

  •  2.5 frozen bananas
  • a tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa powder
  • a generous splash of unsweetened almond milk

Tropical:

  • 1.5 frozen bananas
  • a handful of frozen mango pieces
  • frozen a small handful of frozen strawberries
  • optional: a fresh orange or clementines
  • a splash of unsweetened almond milk (amount depends on how many oranges I’ve put in because those are pretty watery!)

Berry:

  • 2.5 frozen bananas
  • a handful of frozen blueberries
  • a handful of frozen rasberries
  • a small spoonful of acai powder
  • a generous splash of unsweetened almond milk

My favorite toppings:

  • raw, organic cocoa nibs
  • pomegranate seeds
  • fresh blueberries
  • rasins, dried cranberries, dried goji berries
  • pumpkin seeds
  • peanut butter
  • nuts of any kind
  • chia seeds
  • granola or crunchy cereal

Your basic questions answered

1.)  What is a smoothie bowl?

Basically, a smoothie bowl is a meal that is made up of a thick smoothie that rather than sipping through a straw is enjoyed in a bowl with a spoon.

2.)  What makes a smoothie bowl different from a smoothie?

Typically, smoothie bows are a bit thicker in consistency than a traditional smoothie and aren’t blended with any ice. They are also more often than not topped with a variety of delicious toppings and are therefore infinitely customizable!
